BuSpar is an anxiolytic medication primarily used to treat generalized anxiety disorder. It is also commonly used to increase antidepressants in the treatment of major depressive disorder. [10] Unlike most anxiolytics, the pharmacology of buspirone is not related to that of benzodiazepines, barbiturates or carbamates (it is not an analogue of the GABA receptor), so that buspirone does not have no risk of physical dependence or known. Buspirone is not considered an abuse drug, it is safer in case of overdose than traditional anxiolytics and is much less harmful in therapeutic doses.

How to use the Buspar tablet

Take this medication by mouth, usually 2 or 3 times a day or as directed by your doctor. You can take this medication with or without food, but it is important to choose a method and always take it the same way, so that the amount of medication absorbed is always the same.

Buspirone can be presented as a tablet that can be split to get the right dose for you. Follow the manufacturer’s instruction sheet or ask your pharmacist how to split the tablet to get your dose.

Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while taking this medicine unless your doctor or pharmacist tells you to do it safely. Grapefruit can increase the risk of side effects with this medication. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

The dosage depends on your state of health and your response to treatment. Use this medication regularly to get the most out of it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day. When this medication is given, anxiety symptoms (restlessness, for example) can sometimes worsen before improving. It may take up to a month or more for the full effect of this medication to be effective.

Tell your doctor if your symptoms persist or worsen.

    Buspirone dosage

Buspirone is available in 5, 10, 15 or 30 milligram (mg) tablets.
The tablets have a marked mark in the middle so you can split a tablet in half if necessary.
A typical dose starts at 7.5 mg every 12 hours. Your doctor may increase your daily dose by 5 mg every few days if necessary.
An average daily dose is 20 to 30 mg per day in divided doses. The maximum daily dose is 60 mg.
Always take buspirone at the same time each day, with or without food.

    Buspirone overdose

An overdose of buspirone can cause:
    Drowsiness
    Nausea
    Vomiting
    Dizziness
    Blurred vision
In case of overdose, call a Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222.

If you or someone else has severe symptoms after an overdose, call 911.

    Missed dose of buspirone

Take buspirone as directed by your doctor.
Do not stop taking buspirone yourself. It may take a few weeks to fully feel the effects.
If you miss a dose of buspirone, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next usual dose, skip the missed dose.

Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.
